BONI, Rocco J.
Rocco J. "Rocky" Boni, 86 of Mount Dora, FL and formerly of Wethersfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, (October 3, 2012) with his devoted wife by his side. He was born on August 16, 1926 in Wethersfield, son of the late Vito and Augusta (Stemi) Boni. Rocco graduated from Wethersfield High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served on the European front during WW II as a paratrooper. After returning home from the war, he graduated from the New York School of Design in Manhattan. Early in his career he served as Vice-President of a fashion Manufacturing Division in New York. Rocco then opened his own companies, R & S Sportswear Inc. located in Wethersfield and Hartford and Adria Fashions, Inc., located in Bristol where he successfully designed and manufactured clothing for 30 years. He was an avid golfer and sports fan especially enjoyed going to see the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and Hartford Whalers. In later years he and his wife, Dawn, bred and raced standard bred trotters in the Bangor, ME area. Rocco was involved in many clubs and organizations both here and in Florida and past years sat on the advisory board of Colonial Bank. He retired to Florida in 1994. Rocco is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Dawn (Furrough) Boni of Mount Dora, FL; and his special pet dog friend Rusty. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful son, husband, brother and uncle and will be missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Sitaro, Eleanor Accatino, Antonio Boni, Frank Boni, Rose Boni, Georgiana Intravia; and his nephew Dean Boni.
The funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, 9:15 a.m. from The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Entombment with military honors will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Visiting hours will be Monday, Oct. 8 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
