McLEOD, Curtis Ira


Curtis Ira McLeod passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, (October 28, 2012). Born in Lake Placid, NY on Jan 31, 1926, he was the son of Ira Ellis McLeod and Gladys (Felio) McLeod. Curtis grew up in Lake Placid with his beloved sister 'Mimi', and many Uncles, Aunts and cousins enjoying outdoor activities such as skiing, mountain climbing, and golfing. At age 18 he was called to duty and served in the US Army and Air National Guard during WWII and the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge he continued to help veterans returning home from war at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home, and The Hartford State Armory welcoming each serviceman and woman. He continued his passion for volunteering with the American Legion in Wethersfield, Kiwanis Club, Odd Fellows Lodge, Moose Club of Hartford, Wethersfield Democratic Town Committee, Wethersfield Men's Garden Club, and the Officer Friendly program. Curtis was an active member of the Hartford Elks, and was privileged to serve as Grand Exalted Ruler. Dedicated to the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, Curtis served for many years as a Deacon, and remained active as a Deacon Emeritus. He was employed at SNET / CUTW, Telephone Pioneers for 44 years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling all over the world on many wonderful trips with friends. Curtis resided in the Wethersfield- Rocky Hill area for many years until moving to Kimberly Hall Nursing Home in Windsor. The family wishes to thank all of the staff for providing dignified and comforting care during his stay. Curtis is pre-deceased by his wife Jeanne C. McLeod, and is survived by their three children and seven grandchildren; Gary McLeod and his wife Kathleen of Wethersfield and their daughters Lindsay and Courtney, Kim McLeod of New Britain and her sons David, Sean, and daughter Jessica, and Susan (McLeod) Patterson and her husband James of Glastonbury, and their sons Jesse and James.
A memorial service to celebrate Curtis' Life will be held on Saturday November 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at First Church of Christ 250 Main St Wethersfield CT 06109 with the Rev. T. Michael McDowell officiating and music by organist David Spicer. Burial will be private in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield with full military honors. There are no calling hours. The D'Esopo Funeral Chapel of Wethersfield is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ 250 Main St Wethersfield CT to the Good Samaritan Fund.
