Edward "Duffy" PELLEGRINI Obituary

PELLEGRINI, Edward "Duffy"

Edward "Duffy" Pellegrini, of Rockville, beloved husband of the late Marjorie (Phillips) Pellegrini, passed away peacefully on Friday, (November 16, 2012) at Fox Hill Nursing Home with his daughter Dollie and his son Jay at his side. He was born in Stafford to the late Julio and Anna (Fontana) Pellegrini. He lived in Stafford until his early entrance into the U.S. Army in 1943. He proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the 301st Signal Operating Company, A Battalion under the command of General George Patton, earning various medals. Upon his return to the States, he and Marjorie married and made their permanent residence in Rockville. In the early 50's he bought Duffy's Barber Shop on Market Street in downtown Rockville. His clientele included numerous people who would become lifelong friends and even included the famous ones, such as, the "Rockville Rocket" Gene Pitney. Everyone knew "Duffy the Barber". After years of the barbering business, he was offered a chance for a career change. Duffy was hired by the Town of Vernon to work in the school systems maintenance department. He remained with the town of Vernon for the next 23 years, retiring at the age of 77! Some of the things that made Duffy smile the most, besides good conversations, were fly fishing, playing pinochle with his group at the senior center, the Boston Red Sox, the New York Giants and NASCAR racing. He was a communicant of St. Bernard's Parish, a life member of the Rockville Elks Lodge, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Coventry Fish & Game Club. Duffy was blessed of late to have lived at the Pitkat Congregate where he found and adopted a second family! He is survived by his children, Dennis of Texas, Marjorie "Dollie" of Tolland and Jay of Vernon. He leaves a grandson, Dennis Jr. of Colchester; a granddaughter Penny of Texas; two great-grandchildren, Alison of Texas and Leah of Colchester. He also leaves behind the cherished memories shared with his brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Esther Gasparini and three brothers, Attilio, Renaldo and Alfred. Dollie and Jay would like to thank the entire staff of Fox Hill Nursing Home and the nursing staff at the Pitkat Congregate for their professionalism and loving care of their dad, and the constant encouragement and support shown to them during their most difficult and trying times.
His family will receive friends for calling hours on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 from 9-11 a.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (Route 83), Vernon, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Rockville with military honors.
