Marian T. SAVAGE

Obituary Condolences

SAVAGE, Marian T.
Marian T. Savage, 95, passed away on Friday, (November 16, 2012), at Geer Nursing and Rehab Center in Canaan following a steady two month decline in health. Born in Camden, NJ, Nov. 8, 1917, she was the daughter of the late J. Leonard and Nina (Roberts) Turner. After the death of both of her parents, she was adopted by an aunt and uncle and moved to Spencerport, NY at the age of 7. Marian graduated from Spencerport High School in the class of 1936 and then trained to become a governess at the Troy Orphanage in Troy, NY. Except for a few years during World War II when she worked in a defense plant, she was a live-in nanny. This work brought her to Connecticut where she cared for children of many prominent families in the Hartford area. While in Hartford, she met and then married Andrew A. Savage. They moved to New Hartford in 1950 where they raised their two children. In 1982, Marian moved to Winsted, where she lived independently until shortly before her death. Marian continued to take care of children well into her later years. She cared for hundreds of children over her lifetime. She had a special peacefulness and kindness that could be felt by the children, as well as the adults that her life touched. Marian is survived by a daughter, Carole E. Savage of Biddeford, ME and a son, Dale A. Savage and his wife Gail of Norfolk, CT. She was an aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 16 siblings, including half brothers and sisters. Her husband, Andrew A. Savage, died in 1976.
Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations can be made to the Foothills Visiting Nurses and Homecare, Inc., 32 Union St., Winsted, CT 06098. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral.com.
