FARLEY, James E. Jr.

James E. Farley, Jr. of Windsor, CT, beloved husband of Dorothy A. Farley, passed away at his home on the 24th day November. Born and raised in Bronx, NY to Elizabeth Canty Farley and James E. Farley, he lived in Windsor, CT for the last 52 years. Jim attended grammar school with his wife at Our Lady of Angels in Bronx, NY. They have been married 59 years. Jim received a basketball scholarship to All Hallows High and went on to make the NYC All City basketball team in 1948. He received a basketball scholarship from St. Michaels College in Winooski, VT. He was inducted into the St. Michaels Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992. After graduation, Jim joined the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War. During that time he received the Combat Infantry Badge Award and other notable citations. Upon return to civilian life, Jim spent the rest of his career in business management, serving as a production manager for plastics manufacturing firms until his retirement. Jim loved the sport of basketball and spent a great deal of time after moving to CT coaching CYO basketball for St. Gabriel School and scouting for St. Michaels College for local talent. He especially loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Upon retirement, Jim became proficient in computers and was known to many as POP.COM. He also took up photography and enjoyed making albums for his family and sharing photos on the internet. Additionally, he took up the hobby of gardening and holiday decorating and took pleasure in adorning the cul de sac of his condo association, along with the homes and businesses of his children. Besides his wife, he leaves six loving children and their spouses: Nancy J. Adams and her husband Paul of Barkhamsted, Ellen Levasseur and her husband Armand of Windsor Locks, Susan Beatty and her husband John of East Granby, Diane Beckerman and her husband Rick of Avon, James Farley and his wife Lauren of East Granby, and Kevin Farley and his wife Shaundra of Windsor; 12 grandchildren, Gregory Levasseur and his wife Danielle; Timothy Levasseur; Brianne Levasseur; Shannon, Jack and Morgan Beatty; Mary, Haleigh and Jack Beckerman; Sydney Farley; and Maggie and Ryan Farley; and a great granddaughter, Lily Levasseur. James also leaves his son-in-law, Robert Geffert of Windsor. He was predeceased by his daughter, JoAnn Farley Geffert.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. in the chapel of Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor with burial and military honors to follow at the Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel School, 77 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095.
