SODERGREN, Dr. Marvin A.

Dr. Marvin A. Sodergren, age 69, of Lebanon, died peacefully at his home on Monday, (November26, 2012), surrounded by his loving family. Marvin was born on April 23, 1943 in Stockholm, ME, the son of Arthur and Rosalind Sodergren. He lived in Stockholm, ME until his graduation from Caribou High School in 1961. Marvin graduated from Gordon College and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry having earned his Doctorate of Optometry. Following college he opened a successful optometric practice in Willimantic, where he worked for 30 years before selling the practice. Marvin has been married to Sally Sodergren for the last 24 years, residing in Willimantic and Lebanon. Besides his wife Sally, Marvin is survived by his son Eric Sodergren and wife Tracy of Waxhaw, NC; his daughter Cheryl Lanata and husband Bryan Gustis of Glastonbury; and his step daughter Dawn Varney and husband Joel of Manchester. He is also survived by his twin brother, Melvin Sodergren of Louisville, KY; and sister, Shirley Labieniec of Huntington, NY. He will be missed by his five loving grandchildren Shannon, Brendan and Caitlyn Sodergren, Anthony Lanata and Hannah Varney. Marvin loved the outdoors! He was an avid golfer, a small airplane pilot and loved to ski, ride his ATV and go for walks. Marvin and Sally spent their free time enjoying trips to their camper on Cape Cod and their lake house on Madawaska Lake in Maine. Marvin touched many lives through his active involvement in his community, church and profession. He was a former member of the First Congregational Church of Lebanon and is an active member of the Christian Life Assembly of Willimantic. For many years Marvin was actively involved in the operations of the CT Chapter of Optometry and the CT Rotary Club serving various leadership roles. Marvin was a 30 year member of Willimantic Country Club where he spent countless hours playing the game he enjoyed immensely.
Marvin's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 30 between 5 and 8 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte 195) Willimantic. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 1 at 11 a.m. at Christian Life Assembly, 143 Windham Rd., Willimantic.
