WINALSKI, Helen
Helen (Mazurkiewicz) Winalski, RN and former Assistant Registrar of Voters, City of Hartford died January 10, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. Helen, the daughter of the late William and Leocadia (Gutt) Mazurkiewicz, widow of Warren L. Winalski, leaves her children Warren, Mary Russell and husband Richard, their children Alexandrea and Patrick; Matthew and wife Aggie (Peterson) their children William, Matty and Emily; sister Irene Jagielski and her children Edward Jr. Paul, Drew and Karen; beloved cousin Betty Ann White and numerous relatives. She was predeceased by brothers Edward and Richard Mazurkiewicz; and a nephew Drew Jagielski. Helen, an army cadet nursing student, graduated Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing (1946). She worked the operating room of Hartford Hospital as Head Nurse, continued private practice, retired from the Medical Unit USPS (1992). She earned her BA from CCSU graduating along with son Warren in 1975. This and her interests in Republican politics led to participation in numerous party conventions including nominating speeches, terms as a JP and Assistance Registrar of Voters in the 1980s.
Calling hours will be Sunday at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford from 2-5 p.m. Funeral procession will be Monday 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, donations to the UCONN Neag Cancer Center would be appreciated.
