Grace Mae DITERS

Obituary Condolences

DITERS, Grace Mae
Grace Mae Diters, died Sunday (January 13, 2013) at McLean Home while in hospice care. Grace was born June 20, 1920 in Simsbury, daughter of Charlie and Tillie Diters. Grace had lived nearly her whole life in Collinsville, but for four years she spent working for the Aramco Oil Company in Saudi Arabia. Grace's sense of adventure, cultural wisdom and the life lessons learned there, were gifts she never lost. Grace loved strawberry shortcake, cute cats, travelling all over the world, and experiencing what was around her. She cherished her life- long friendships; especially her best friend since elementary school, Phyllis Berglund. In retirement she volunteered with the Red Cross and at the Canton Historical Society. It always pleased her that her father Charlie's barbershop chair was one of the museum's regular exhibits. Grace would wish that those who miss her remember her by having new experiences and living them fully. She was predeceased by her parents as well by her brothers, George and Edward, and her sister Edna Louise. She leaves a family that knows that she was ready to go but still grieve greatly and will miss her, her nephews and nieces, Patrick Diters and his wife Mary, Charles Diters and his wife Anne, Meg Eggleston and her husband Ed, and Mark Diters and his wife Susan; great nieces and nephews, Hank and his wife Lynn, Marshall and his wife Cristina, Sarah and her husband Jon , Caitlin and her husband Gene, and Erin, Sam, Galen, and Seth; and her great, great ones, Henry, Jessica, Nathan, Lexi, Jonny, Willow and Logan. Grace's family ties were enhanced by double cousins, her mother and her sister married brothers. This enriched all that were involved. They are Dee White and her husband Jimmy, Susan Holcomb Voudren and Carlton Holcomb and all their children.
A service will be held on Saturday, January 26 at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and a Celebration of her Life at 11 a.m. Many thanks to the McLean Home for their caring and support. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canton Historical Society, 11 Front Street, Collinsville, Connecticut and/or make a blood donation at the next Red Cross Blood Drive. Please visit Grace's "Book of Memories" at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online condolences.
