GULIOSO, Anthony "Tony"


Anthony "Tony" Gulioso, 89, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband for 60 years of the late Elisa (Pietraroia) Gulioso, entered into God's care on Monday, (January 28, 2013). Born on June 3, 1923, in Norwich, he was the son of Paul and Nicoletta (Perrone) Gulioso. He attended Norwich Free Academy and graduated from Willimantic Technical School in 1942. Tony was a proud veteran of World War II, serving for two years as a corporal in the Army/Air Force in England and Belgium. He received four Bronze Service Stars and the EAME Campaign Medal for his service to his country. For 30 years he was employed at Edmund's Manufacturing Company as a toolmaker, where he eventually became the Supervisor of Production. Tony lived in West Hartford for many years before moving to Rocky Hill in 1986. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, receiving the honor of Fourth Degree in 1971. Tony was small in stature but huge in wisdom. His work ethic and self-taught business acumen were unmatched. He had a phenomenal memory and loved to share his childhood memories and military experiences with his children and grandchildren. Tony enjoyed traveling, camping, bowling, and golfing. He also liked to play cards with his Senior Center friends in Rocky Hill, Wethersfield, and Newington. Tony loved dining out and visiting the Mohegan Sun Casino with his best buddy, Bob Sylvester. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees, and UCONN women's basketball. Tony was our family handyman, fixing electrical and plumbing problems, as well as performing masonry work and car tune-ups. He also was an excellent cook, known for his delicious homemade pasta, Sicilian pizza, and pasta fagioli. Tony leaves behind his three children, Lorraine "Lori" Willin of Wethersfield, Paul Gulioso of West Hartford, and Joan Jacobs and her husband Donald of West Hartford; his grandchildren, Sarah (Willin) McGrath and her husband Matt of Lake Stevens, Washington, Katie Willin of Rocky Hill and her fiancé Dennis Gervais, Michael Willin of Newington, Gregory Jacobs and his wife Jennifer of West Hartford, and Kristina Jacobs of NYC. He also leaves behind a sister, Rose Roche, and many nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased by his sisters, Carmella Gulioso and Marion Buonanno; and his brothers, Benjamin, Charles, and Joseph Gulioso.
Calling hours will be on Monday, Feb. 4, from 8:30-10 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
