James J. COVEY Jr. Obituary

COVEY, James J. Jr.

James "Seamus" Covey died February 28, 2013 in Provincetown, MA. "Seamus" was born April 28, 1921 in East Hartford and attended public and parochial schools, graduating high school in 1939. He served during World War II as a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army at several posts in the Pacific Theater and was in Saipan just prior to his honorable discharge. He then worked for many years at Sage-Allen Department Stores in Hartford as the credit manager. He and his partner John Cray moved to Florida for several years but returned to the northeast to own and operate the Courtland House in Provincetown, MA. In the early 1990s, he and John returned to Florida until John's death in 1999. "Seamus" again returned to Provincetown to live the balance of his life among a loving and caring community. In addition to his many friends, he leaves his brother Thomas W. Covey and sister-in-law Jane Covey of Avon, his niece Peyton J. Forni, her husband John and daughter Ava of Aurora, CO and his nephew J. Bryan Covey of Weehawken, NJ. "Seamus" also leaves many cousins and their families. He lived his life with a twinkle in his eye, love in his heart and a warm and friendly style that made him a friend to many. As an artist who enjoyed capturing the beauty of nature with the stroke of a paint brush, he was proud to have his paintings featured at Seaman's Bank in Wellfleet, MA in 2011 as well as at his residence Seashore Point, Provincetown, MA. His family wishes to thank the staff at Seashore Point, Cape Cod Hospital, Outer Cape Health Services, VNA Hospice Care and the Council on Aging for their compassionate care provided during the later stages of his life.
A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown, MA followed by a reception at Seashore Point, 100 Alden St., Provincetown, MA. Burial will be private and there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to: Friends of the Council on Aging, 26 Alden St., Provincetown, MA 02657 or CASAS Animal Shelter, 5 Sandy Hill Lane, Provincetown, MA 02657.
