BRISTOL, David A. Sr.

David A. Bristol Sr., 87, a lifelong resident of Canton and beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Hackett) Bristol, died on Sunday, (March 17, 2013) peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Canton to the late Sterling and Ruth (Codaire) Bristol, he served his country proudly during World War II with the US Navy as Signalman 2C in the Pacific and Atlantic. He was a graduate of Canton High School and earned his bachelor's degree in Horticulture from UCONN. David was a past Master of Village Lodge #29 of Collinsville AF & AM and a member for 60 years. He was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He was passionate about caring for the people around him and farming his family land. He was well known for growing the best sweet corn in the valley. He is survived by his four children, Laura Bristol Frascarelli and her husband George of Canton, Elizabeth Bristol Kossoy and her husband Dr. Allen of Topeka, KS, David Bristol, Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Sheffield, VT, and Daniel Bristol and his wife Nadine of Canton; and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sister Margaret Edgerton of Charlottesville,VA, his companion of four years Ethel Johnson, and many nieces and nephews, especially his neighbor and nephew John Forker and his wife Cherie. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Mary, and his brothers Sterling, Robert and Willard Bristol, and his sister Minerva Bristol Forker.
His family will receive friends on Friday, March 22 from 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service to be held at 7 p.m. at the Carmon Avon Funeral Home and Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at the Canton Center Congregational Church, 184 Cherry Brook Rd., Canton.
