JOHANSEN, Richard A.

Richard A. Johansen, 78, beloved husband of Sally L. Caldwell St. Pierre Johansen, of Wallingford, died Saturday (April 6, 2013) at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Plantsville. Born in Hartford, September 25, 1934, a son of the late Edwin S. and Margerie MacIlvane Johansen, he grew up in Unionville and had lived in Glastonbury for many years before moving to Wallingford 9 years ago. He was a graduate of Farmington High School and had been employed as an accountant for Connecticut Mutual Insurance Co. and later at Travelers Insurance until his retirement. He had been a Boy Scout leader and had served on the Republican Town Committee of Farmington. He was a member of the Masonic Evening Star Lodge # 101 and was an avid golfer. He loved the automobile industry and had different makes and models throughout the years. He was a peacetime veteran having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manchester. Besides his wife Sally, he is survived by his children, Karen Kirby and her husband Tom of Tolland, Jeffrey Johansen and his wife Marcia of Illinois, and Mark Johansen of Ellington; his step-children Michelle Elder and her husband Bill of NY, Scott Reece and his wife Taryn of Maine, Judith Johansen of Wallingford, Jeffrey St. Pierre of Wallingford, James St. Pierre and his wife Diana of Durham, and Jason St. Pierre and Maggie of Wallingford; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce Johansen, his brothers Edwin Johansen, William Johansen, and David Johansen, and his step-son John B. St. Pierre.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Manchester. The Rev. Dr. David Saylor will officiate. Interment will be in the Green Cemetery in Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1261 South Main St., Plantsville, CT 06479 or to the First Baptist Church of Manchester, 240 Hillstown Rd., Manchester, CT 06040.
