COUNTRYMAN, Clarence "Sonny"

Clarence "Sonny" Countryman, 82, of Hartford, beloved husband of the late Olive May (Onley) Countryman, passed away peacefully on Saturday, (April 6, 2013). He was born Nov. 12, 1930 in Hartford to the late Baurel and Eunice (Davis) Countryman. Clarence served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force and was fortunate to have met Olive in Bermuda during his service. He was a barber for some time with his father at the Capen Street Barbershop in Hartford. He attended Howard University and Dowling College before earning his Masters Degree from SUNY Stony Brook. He was a teacher for many years in the Hauppauge Public School System on Long Island. Clarence was a lifelong philosopher, espousing his wisdom on all who would listen. He especially had an interest in helping all ages of people realize the importance of education. He is survived by his children, Raymond E. Countryman of Windsor; Mark S. Countryman and his wife Marva of Central Islip, NY; his brothers, Robert L. Countryman of Bonita, CA, Wayne Countryman of Lancaster, CA. His sisters; Ruby Lue of Lithonia, GA, Elizabeth Williams of Hartford, and Irene Johnson of Vista, CA, as well as two grandchildren, Jasmine Countryman and Taneille Clouden and a host of nephews and nieces. In addition to his wife and parents Clarence was predeceased by seven siblings. His Bermuda family includes Clarence and Stella Bean of Devonshire, Bermuda, and Alfred and Shermy Onley of Calicoon, NY and was predeceased by Everett Onley of Shelley Bay, Bermuda.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT 06095. His family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
