Margaret TRAINOR Obituary

TRAINOR, Margaret Josephine (Swanton)

Margaret "Peg" Josephine Trainor (nee Swanton) died April 12, 2013 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Storrs, CT after a long illness. She was born on Aug. 30, 1928 to Patrick and Margaret (Mogan) Swanton in South Boston, MA, where she lived until age eight when the family moved to North Providence, RI. She graduated from North Providence High School at age 16 and promptly went to work. While working at the office of The Propagation of the Faith in Providence, she met her future husband, Francis (Frank) R. Trainor. They were married August 25, 1956, moved to Storrs in 1957 and settled in for life. Frank died February 12, 2013. Peg is survived by her sisters, Ellen M. Hajema and her husband, Dirk of Hudson, MA, Patricia Mullaney of Narragansett, RI; and her brother John L. Swanton and his wife Carol of North Smithfield, RI; her sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Raymond Groudis, of Mt. Airy, MD. She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Ann Swanton Jackson of North Smithfield, RI; and her brother Paul Swanton of East Providence, RI both died in 2012. She loved her many nieces, nephews, and late husband's many graduate students. Peg was a skilled seamstress, weaver, and knitter. She also was adept at painting, stained glass work, was an excellent cook, and a gracious hostess who welcomed Frank's graduate students and colleagues to their beautifully kept home on many occasions. Her Christmas cookies were legendary. She and Frank traveled extensively in Europe and the United States, especially enjoying Ireland. For many years she served in various ways as a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas parish; she kept track of the altar linens, even making vestments, and was an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. She had a delightful sense of humor, was very fond of classical music, and loved her cats. She will be truly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 19, 2013, under the direction of Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, (Rte 195), Willimantic, CT 06226. Visiting hours will be Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with 2 p.m. services at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, North Eagleville Road, Storrs, CT. Burial will be private at a later date.
