LISKA, Michael D., Sr.

Michael D. Liska, Sr., 71, of South Glastonbury, passed away suddenly on March 18, 2013 in Fort Myers, FL. He is survived by his wife, partner and best friend, Diane Avery-Liska of 20 years. Born in Hartford he was the oldest son of the late Louis and Natalie Liska of East Hartford. He graduated from East Hartford in 1959 and attended St. Mike's College in Vermont. He worked closely with his father Louis in his business Alco Refrigeration, Inc. Louis died young suddenly in 1965 and Michael continued his father's business and grew it to include HVAC for over 30 years as Alco Aire, Inc. In 2001 Michael and Diane established their business Expert Comfort Solutions of Bloomfield and in 2008 was merged with The Eugene Steinberg Co. Michael retired in 2009 and spent his winters in sunny Florida and summers on their boat. Michael will be remembered for his leadership in the HVAC industry and serving in the communities in which he lived including Boys Scouts, former President of the Connecticut Heating and Cooling Contractors Association, the East Hartford Jaycees, Wethersfield Historic District Commission, former President of Chestnut Hill Condo Association in South Glastonbury, a Board Member of Coachlight Village Condo Association, a Member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, a Member of the Connecticut River Museum and most recently a Member of the Porsche Club of America. He cherished his time spent with family and friends, boating on the CT River, skiing in VT., golfing in Fort Myers and taking road trips in his sports car. He restored several historic homes, cars, and boats, was an accomplished cook, enjoyed reading, good wine, his nightly scotch and cigar. Michael was a quiet and dignified man who was respected for his integrity, generosity, leadership and loyalty and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Michael is survived by his sister, Barbara (Bill) Ludlow of Scituate, MA; his brother Attorney William (Nicole) Liska; son, Michael Jr. (Lucy) Liska; grandchildren, Natalie and Garrett; daughter Marnie Van Dyke; granddaughter Emma; son Corey Liska all of Wethersfield; his brother-in-law Gordon Avery of Glastonbury; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in Michael's name to the General Endowment Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Blvd., Hartford, CT. 06106. Michael's memorial and burial will be private.
