RODRIGUEZ, Joseph "Pepe"

On April 18, 2013 Joseph "Pepe" Rodriguez, 70, was called home. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born on Feb. 27, 1943 in East Harlem, New York to Petra and Jorge Luis, Sr. Rodriguez. Joseph grew up in New York, NY. He graduated from Rice High School in New York in 1960. After high school he attended College in New York and Massachusetts receiving his Bachelor degree in Human Services. Joseph moved to Connecticut in 1979 with family. He worked for Jefferson Park Community Center, New York, NY in the 1960's through 1970's. Community Renewal Team (CRT) in 1980's, Hartford, CT and Salvation Army in 1990's, Hartford, Immaculate Conception Shelter during 2000's, Hartford. Joseph married ex-wife and friend Dr. June Bryant-Rodriguez. They were friends for 41 years and married 19 years. Joseph was a member of Greater Hartford and New Britain Chess Club since 1991 and received Grand Master Championship in 1991, 2nd Top Class B Championship in 1992 and 1995, New Britain City Tournament Championship tied 2nd Place, New Britain Top Class C Championship in 1994. His religious affiliation was Islam and he was an avid worshiper. He enjoyed Latin/Jazz and his family was his most important sense of pride and joy. He was a member of the YMCA since the 1990's and he enjoyed playing chess and basketball. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Jorge Luis, Sr. and Petra Rodriguez; his brothers Raphael (Ray) Rodriguez and Jorge (George) Luis Rodriguez, Jr., sister-in-law and close friend, Felicita (Culy) Rodriguez; his nephew George Rodriguez, Jr. and best friend Osborne (Butch) Bryant Jr. Joseph is survived by his ex-wife Dr. June Bryant-Rodriguez, Windsor; his brother Pete Rodriguez, New York, NY, his sons Damian Rodriguez of East Hartford and Yusef Rodriguez, Bristol; his daughter Petra Rodriguez of New Haven; his grandchildren Tyshaun, Micah, Mekih, Makayla, Elijah, Kayla, Jordan and Jaquan, Dasia, and Darien, his loving niece Khadeja Rodriguez and other nieces, nephews and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT on Thursday April 25 2013 at 6-8 p.m. If you would like to send flowers, please send to Carmon Funeral Home.
