DESMARAIS, Richard A.
Richard A. Desmarais, 70 of Bomoseen, VT, formerly of Manchester, CT, died Monday, (May 6, 2013) at the Hospice House in Merrimack, NH after an extended illness. He was born in Hartford, CT on Oct. 13, 1942, son of the late Abel A. and Viola B. (Gadouas) Desmarais and was raised in the Frog Hollow section of Hartford. He enlisted in the Navy and served from 1961 - 1964, during the Cuban missile crisis and in the Dominican Republic. He came to Manchester in 1968 and moved to Vermont in 1997. Prior to retiring he was employed by the US Postal Service since 1970. Richard was an involved and active volunteer for the American Red Cross, and was a former parishioner of St. James Church, where he was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and taught Confirmation classes. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Post 2046, and American Legion Post 102. He is survived by his three children, Marc P. Desmarais and his wife Lori of Hudson, NH, Denise L. Edberg and her husband Robert of Washington, NH, and Eric M. Desmarais of Rockville, CT; three grandchildren, Jordin Edberg, Madison Edberg, and Hunter Desmarais; his sister, Virginia Desmarais Thulen of Springfield, VT, and his niece Brenda Soriano, his nephew Phil Thulen, and their families. Richard was predeceased by his nephew, Kenny Thulen.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16, at 9:15 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester, with military honors to follow. Burial will be private in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Valcourt, Quebec, Canada. Visiting hours are Wednesday, May 15, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
