James P. BLOZNALIS Obituary


James Peter Bloznalis, 92, loving husband of Lena (Cretella) Bloznalis, died peacefully at the home of his daughter on May 16, 2013, surrounded by his family. He married Lena, the love of his life, at age 42 and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2012. He was born in Windsor on Sept. 7, 1920, the son of Peter and Macalena (Palozie) Bloznalis who immigrated from Lithuania. James enlisted in the Coast Guard during World War II where he proudly served his country in the Battle of Iwo Jima and other Pacific island conflicts. He lived in East Windsor and worked as a Hartford County Deputy Sheriff. His passion was time spent working on the family farm growing broadleaf tobacco. James was a proud member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and served as Eucharistic Minister. He loved to fly fish, talk politics, take walks with his wife and belonged to the Broad Brook Angling Club and Connecticut Fly Fisherman's Association. He retired to Boynton Beach, FL and Old Saybrook and was known for his beautiful gardens. He leaves behind two sons Peter J. Bloznalis of Upton, MA, James A. Bloznalis and wife Milena of East Windsor, a daughter, Leah M. Dean and husband John of Bolton, nine grandchildren; Daniel, Rachel and Sarah Bloznalis, Thomas and Isabella Bloznalis, Kevin, Audrey, Erica and Jason Dean, a brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Judith Bloznalis of Clearwater, FL, a sister-in-law Carolyn P. Bloznalis of Broad Brook, a nephew James A. Balch of East Windsor, and many nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by a brother, Walter Bloznalis, a sister, Monica Balch and a grandson, Eric J. Dean. The family wants to thank family, friends and the staff at St Francis Hospital and Masonicare for their help and support in his final days of life.
A mass will be held Tuesday, May 21 at 10 a.m. St. Catherine Church, Broad Brook. Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, May 20, 5-7 p.m. at Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner St, East Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to My Father's House, 39 North Moodus Rd, Moodus, CT 06469 (www.myfathershouse.com).
