Obituary Condolences

ST. CYR, Mary
Mary St. Cyr, passed away on June 16, 2013. Mary was diagnosed with cancer four years ago but managed comfortably until just recently when her health took a serious decline. Mary had an interesting and rewarding professional life, starting with the State Welfare Department, then the Bridgeport School System and ultimately over 25 years with the Westport schools, as a Counselor, School Psychologist and mid-level administrator. She was also very active in professional organizations, first with the CT Association of School Psychologists, where she served in a variety of offices, including president. She then was active in the formation of NASP, the National Association of School Psychologists and served as its first secretary. She remained active for over 20 years and served several terms as a Regional Director and finally served for a decade as one of four Executive Managers. After retirement from Westport, Mary worked part time for another 10 years as a Surrogate Parent for foster children with special needs and in that period also served on the State Advisory Council for Special Education. The part time nature of her job allowed her and her husband to enjoy annual trips to Tucson to visit dear friends, the month of March in Florida, and other auto trips nationally and cruises to Alaska and Scandinavia. The highlight of their retirement years was the fun they had entertaining friends and relatives at their Cape Cod home. There Mary was able to indulge in her love of the beach, as well as card and board games of all kinds. Mary felt she had a wonderful life and felt loved and cared for by her large circle of friends and family. In particular she appreciated the love and care demonstrated by nieces Joanne Nash, Stephanie Orzel, Martha D'Urso and Dale Nash, and her sister-in-law and husband, Lois and Ken Gustafson. She is survived by her husband, Robert Anderson, step-daughter Melissa Anderson and husband, Michael Santoski, grandchildren Laura and David Santoski, brother Edward Blair and wife Joanne, former husband Napoleon St. Cyr, former sister-in-law Theresa Nash and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. The Cape Cod house is being put into a family trust. Family and friends will attempt to fulfill Mary's wishes by continuing to have times of good fellowship there and at the home in Union, CT.
