Jim PRESSER Obituary

PRESSER, Jim

Jim Presser, "Cowpa", son of the late Sylvester and Mildred Presser, passed away on July 5, 2013 after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was at home, surrounded by those he loved. Jim was a man who spent his life giving himself to others: his country, his family, his co-workers, his rodeo teammates and his many friends. Jim was born on September 26, 1946 in Bismarck, North Dakota. In 1962, he moved to Las Vegas, where he spent most of his adult life. Jim graduated from Rancho High School in 1964. Two years later, he was called to the service of his country, serving in the United States Army at Fort Baker, CA, where his duties included work in the 6th Army Medical Laboratory. Upon completion of his service, Jim returned to Las Vegas and joined the Southwest Gas Corporation. He became one of the company's longest tenured employees, retiring in 2006 after 37 years. His coworkers universally remember him as a disciplined, compassionate manager. Jim split time in his retirement years between Las Vegas and Granby. He focused on his grandkids, attending their activities and teaching them lessons that ranged from how to install a ceiling fan to the proper way to throw a lasso. Jim is survived by LuAn Presser, his wife of 43 years; his brother Doug Presser; sister Pam Donovan; daughters Kristal Fiorentino and Kerri Cajthaml; sons in law Mark Fiorentino and Brent Cajthaml; grandson Gage Fiorentino; and granddaughters Kadyn Cajthaml, Ellie Fiorentino and Macie Cajthaml. We will forever cherish him as a man whose love, kindness and selflessness knew no bounds. Donations in Jim's memory can be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Dad, Not a day will go by that I won't miss you. You have set a high standard for Brent to follow as a father, spouse and one day a grandfather. I have to be the luckiest girl in the world to have you as my father. I love you more than you know and will miss you every day!

Jim was just one of the nicest guys in our class. Always a bit shy, but if you needed help - Jim was your guy! His dad taught him things about fixing stuff that amazed all of his friends, he was a treasure trove of useful information.

I treasure the special friendship and know what great parents he had. Millie worked for my first husband (Jerry Cahill) so I was always able to keep tabs on Jim and his family.

Sending our love to you LuAn and the whole family. May you find comfort in knowing he is watching over you still, because Jim never forgot those he loved.

Had a lot of great talks and laughs together. Jim was always smiling and gave me great encouragement during tough moments in life. I respected his advice and it hurts to know I will not see him again. God bless you and your family Luann. Jim would want you to enjoy and embrace the life you have although it may be difficult without him. He sure loved you.

I worked with Jim at SWG for 18 years. He was a good friend, and after he went into supervision, equally good in that capacity - always honest and fair.

I was so very lucky to have known Jim. Such a wonderful man! Not many men can 'measure up' to his standards. Everyone who knew Jim, liked/loved Jim. He will leave a big void in everyone's lives; especially his close family. Hopefully, the great memories of this man will keep a smile on our faces. "Rest in peace, Jim"

I worked with J.P. for 9 years and enjoyed every minute of it. He was a great boss! J.P. had some of the greatest stories to tell. He called me " Cactus Pete" because I had an encounter with a cactus which he pulled out of my leg with pliers. J.P. was always there for me. He was a great guy. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Jim, you will always be my favorite boss!

I love you Jim, missing every minute without you,but know I am healing and taking care of myself like I promised you.

I had the pleasure and priviledge of working with Jimmie during most of our careers with SWG. Every day he came up to our office to say hi - or maybe he was just checking to see if anyone brought in any goodies to eat. He was so proud when each of his grandkids was born, and loved sharing their stories with us. We were honored to also be considered his friends, and to share some of the good times during his retirement.
Jimmie - we will love you and miss you always. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
