BEARD, Harold, Jr.

Harold Beard Jr., 92, died at St. Francis Hospital on Tuesday (July 23, 2013). He was born in Hartford on October 30, 1920 to Harold Beard, Sr. and Ethel Beard, the oldest of seven children. He attended Hartford Public schools and served in the armed forces as a Marine. He married Patricia Dodge, now deceased, and they raised three children, Harold S. Beard, who died in 1991, Julie Lezon who died in 2009, and is survived by daughter, Susan Beard. He was employed by the City of Hartford Police Department and retired from there in 1971. He served in the United States Marine Corp in World War II and the Korean War and earned medals and awards including an American Defense Medal, Purple Heart, Victory Medal: with service in the Asian-Pacific, China, and in the military police. He was recognized for good conduct and discharged honorably with the position of sergeant. He enjoyed being with all of his family, playing cards, and going to bingo. Besides his beloved daughter Susan Beard, he leaves the memories of his son, Harold S. Beard, and his daughter Julie Lezon. He also leaves behind his son-in-law, Joseph Lezon; grandsons Jason Mantello, Sr. and his wife Janet, Christopher Pinto and his wife Christine; granddaughters Amelia Lezon and her boyfriend Ryan Doiron, and Jessica Lezon; great-grandchildren Jason Mantello Jr., Jonathon Mantello and Janelle Mantello, Delaney Wilk and Gulianna Pinto. He also leaves behind his sisters, Louella Wasil and her family, Ethel Aniello and her family, Janice Higley and her family. He leaves a brother Richard Beard and his wife Stephanie and family. He was predeceased by his brothers Frederick Beard and Robert Beard. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He also leaves behind all of the family of Mary Bellefleur who were dear to him.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 29, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home , 1276 Berlin Turnpike in Wethersfield, CT.
