HIPSKY, Martin A.


Martin "Marty" A. Hipsky, age 68, of Stetson, passed away at home after a brief battle with cancer on August 1, 2013. Marty was born in Stafford Springs, Ct. Jan. 16, 1945. He was the son of Andrew Hipsky, who was killed in World War II in March of 1945, and his mother was Judith (Lajda) Campo and stepdad Romano Campo. Marty graduated from Stafford Springs High in 1963. He attended Springfield College where he earned a degree in Physical Education. Marty completed graduate studies at Southern Conn. College in Education. Marty taught school in Conn for 27 years with the majority of this time at Thomaston High School where he was the Athletic Director and High School Basketball Coach. He was also lucky enough to coach basketball at Litchfield High School where his youngest son, Brian, was on his team. Marty grew up in Ct as a child but trapped, fished and loved the outdoors. He would read Boys Life Magazine and dream about someday moving to Maine. After retirement he realized his dream when he and his wife, Gail, moved to Maine where he spent hours hunting and fishing. Marty was a School Board Director for SAD 64, and a Selectman in the town of Stetson where he helped write a grant for the town making it possible for them to build a Fire Department Library Complex. Marty was a self-taught photographer and had a love of all art. He would spend hours In his darkroom printing wonderful Black & White images of his family, local folks and anything that caught his eye. Marty was a member of the Eastern Maine Camera Club, The Bangor Art Society and Maine Traditional Film Photographers in Hallowell. One of Marty's specialties was infrared film photography. Marty was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bangor and active on the council along with other activities in the church. Marty was a wonderful father to his three sons and devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren. He shared his love of the world with them and taught them valuable life skills. Marty is survived by his wife, Gail and their three sons; Martin Jr. and wife Jenny Wiest and their daughter Lily Wiest of Delaware, OH; David and wife Susan and their three children Melanie, Ericka and Andy of Blue Hil, ME; Brian of Atlanta, GA; His sister Elizabeth Campo of West Hartford, CT; His brother Tom Campo of Holland, MA; Mother-in-law Faith Holman of Levant: Brother-in-law Larry Metcalfe and his wife Karen and niece Rachel of Anaheim, CA; and numerous friends and family that have touched his life.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call Sunday, August 4, 2013 from 12-2 p.m. at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 540 Essex St., Bangor, with the Rev. Elaine Hewes officiating.
