KELLEY, Richard F. "Chop"

Richard F. "Chop" Kelley, 71 of Stafford Springs, formerly of So. Windsor and Clearwater, FL, beloved husband of Joan (Moynihan) Kelley, passed away Wednesday (August 21, 2013). He was born in Hartford, son of the late Daniel and Madeline (Foley) Kelley. He was in the Our Lady of Sorrows Drum Corp and graduated from HPHS Class of 1959. He and his brother Danny were star baseball players at HPHS. "Chop" was a firefighter and Deputy Chief Aide, for the Hartford Fire Department, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Emerald Society and past President and Board Member of the Hartford Firefighters Protective Association, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, East Hartford. He was an avid Yankees fan and umpired for American Legion and local high schools. Besides his wife, he leaves his three daughters, Kerry Kelley and her husband Robert Prestash of West Hartford, Kristin and Arnold Corpus of Stafford, Jennifer and Greg Cohen of So. Windsor, and his cherished granddaughters Madeline and Caitlin Corpus. He also leaves a brother Daniel J. Kelley, Jr. of Largo, FL, his sister Nancy Sanstrom of Portland, a nephew Daniel Sanstrom of Portland, a sister-in-law Ann Greco and her husband Sal of Glastonbury, brothers-in-law Frank Moynihan and his wife Shirley of West Hartford, and Daniel and Debbie Moynihan of Bolton, and his aunt Eileen Foley of West Hartford. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a brother-in-law Linus Sanstrom.
Funeral procession will be Monday, August 26, at 9 a.m. from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows, 79 New Park Ave., Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stafford Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. P.O. Box 147, Staffordville, CT, 06077.
