HUDSON, Barbara Ann

Miss Barbara Ann Hudson was born October 20, 1942, in Opelika, AL. She was the third child born to the late Laura Mae Hudson and Deacon Joseph Hudson, Sr. The family migrated to Bristol in 1947 where Barbara was a product of the Bristol Public School System, graduating from Bristol Eastern High School in 1960. After high school she attended Morse College in Hartford and received a Masters Degree from the University of Massachusetts, located in Amherst, MA. Barbara was Executive Director of the Amistad Foundation of the Wadsworth Athenaeum, Hartford for many years, and was Curator of African American Art as sole proprietor of Barbara A. Hudson & Associates. She worked closely with upcoming and well-known artists in Hartford, Albany, NY, Washington, DC and other major cities. She traveled extensively and was nationally recognized as a lecturer, art consultant and curator of African American Art. She has published articles of her art experience and published documentation of her travels. Her expertise as a curator and knowledge as an art consultant will be greatly missed. She leaves to celebrate her life, her father Deacon Joseph Hudson, Sr., of Bristol; two brothers, Joseph Hudson, Jr., of Hampton, NJ and Robert Charles Hudson of Bristol; one sister, Linda S. Ferguson (Clifford) of Bristol; two nephews, Dana S. Hudson of Orlando, FL and Michael L. Hudson (Hillary) of Washington, NJ; two nieces, Pamela D. Joseph (John) of Effort, PA and Karen D. Jackson (Phillip) of Easton, PA; Special dear friends Gwendolyn Gardner (Robert) of Windsor, and Blaun Eva Brewton (Hiram) of Washington, DC and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her eldest sister, Minnie Jean Hudson and her mother, Quilter Laura Mae Hudson.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. in DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol.
