Virginia Ann O'Donnell Obituary

Virginia Ann (O'Brien) O'Donnell, 92, formerly of Heritage Village Southbury, passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 3, 2013 at Valerie Manor in Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. O'Donnell, who died in 1995. Virginia was born in Hartford, December 15, 1920, daughter of the late Dennis and Mary (Fenton) O'Brien. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy and St. Joseph College, West Hartford. Prior to her marriage, Virginia was employed by the Hartford office of the Internal Revenue Service. She was a licensed Funeral Director for over forty years as well as a former owner and corporate officer of the O'Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. of Waterbury. Virginia was a former member of the local Waterbury, State and National Funeral Director's Associations. She had been a long time communicate of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and was very active over the years in many of the church organizations including the Madonna Guild, Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and all Sts. Peter & Paul School functions. She was an avid reader and never met a crossword puzzle too challenging for her. Virginia leaves her daughter, Denise; three sons Brian, Patrick and Edward; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Thomas, John, Mary and Helen. The O'Donnell family would like to thank the staff at Valerie Manor, Exceptional Care LLC and the Village at East Farms for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Virginia. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. As per Virginia's wishes, funeral services are private. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In her memory, donations may be made to the Boys & Girls Club, Waterbury or University of St. Joseph, West Hartford.
