Edward J. Gorski Sr. Obituary

March 12 in Stafford, CT, Edward J. Gorski, Sr., passed away in his 86th year. Born in Chicopee, MA, on May 16, 1927, son of the late Thomas and Anna Gorski. Ed was a longtime Hampden resident. His first job after graduating from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture was as a forest steward in Kremmling, Colorado. He left the woods to work at the Springfield Armory, where he met his beloved wife, the late Mary Germain. After moving to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in CT, he progressed from skilled trades to management. He returned to school earning his B.S.M.E. and M.B.A. from Western New England University. He retired from PWA after 34 years. Education was paramount to Ed. He was extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of his small family, speaking often of 15 university degrees including 1 Doctorate and 5 Masters. Ed was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Coast Guard aboard the USCGC Bramble. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Parish and member of the American Legion, CT Post 101. He was an ardent gardener and outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fly fishing, tying all his own flies. In retirement, he devoted significant time to town politics, an avid contributor to the Board of Education to ensure the best possible education for the town's children. In addition to his parents and wife Mary, he is predeceased by siblings Joseph Gorski, Stanley Gorski, Helen Wojnicki, and Isabelle Renfrow. He is survived by his children, Kathleen Gorski of Hampden, Edward Gorski, Jr. and wife Laurie of Somers, CT, Sarah Gorski and fiance Robert Germain of Springfield, MA, brother Major General Chester Gorski (retired), of Cummington, MA. The lights of his life were his grandchildren, David Gorski and Thomas Gorski, both of Somers, CT. He also leaves many nephews and nieces and his longtime special friend, Alene Jahn. Visiting hours are Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 2-5pm at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. The funeral is Monday, March 17, 2014 beginning at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m. Somers Road, Hampden. Cemetery Committal services will be at a later date.
