Earl "Butch" Gordon Obituary

"Butch" Earl Gordon, 70, of East Hartford, beloved husband for 49 years of Paula (Raffino) Gordon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday (March 23, 2014). Born in Hartford on August 22, 1943, he was the son of the late Lester and Violet (Meucci) Gordon. He graduated from East Hartford High and attended the Paier School of Art in Hamden. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Butch was the owner of Manchester Motor Car Company and will be remembered as one of the originators of Manchester's Cruising on Main, which became one of the largest car shows in the Northeast. He was also a member of the 100 Club and was an avid antique automobile collector and car buff. He truly enjoyed spending time with his buddies on Friday's. However, the most important role of his life was being "Papa" to his five cherished grandsons. He was their biggest fan on and off the field. In addition to his devoted wife Paula, Butch will be dearly missed by his son, Paul Joseph Gordon, his wife Carlene (Budney) and their sons, Jake and Nicholas of Stratford; his daughter, Shelley (Gordon) Rice, her husband Timothy and their sons, Zachary, Kyle and Luke of Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (March 29) at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Rd., East Hartford. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be private. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Donations in Butch's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
