Margaret S. Thomas Obituary

Margaret S. Thomas, 92 of Bloomfield, CT departed this life on Thursday, April 10, 2014. She was born in Wethersfield, CT, on September 13, 1921 to the late Leon W. Roane and Elnora (Turner) Roane. She was educated in Wethersfield and graduated from Wethersfield High School. She spent her early years employed at Pratt and Whitney and Hamilton Standard upon her leave from Hamilton Standard, she, her sister and a friend had a housekeeping service, giving that up in the mid 1960's to become a childcare provider for the families of Bowles Park and beyond, where she resided and worked in this capacity until her retirement after having moved to Federation Homes in Bloomfield, CT. She was the President and Vice-President of the Tenant's Association at Federation Homes where she resided until moving to Alexandria Manor where she remained until her death. She is a current member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Throughout her life she loved to socialize with family and friends and attended numerous cultural and community activities especially at the Artists Collective. She has an impeccable flair for fashion and was revered the "Queen Mother of Pearls". Most of all she loved her family and friends - especially the children. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Cheryl L. Smith of West Hartford, her brother Clarence Roane of Hartford, and her adopted family which includes, Leslie Ann Lescarbeau (John), of Portland CT, Karen Marie Smith of Willimantic, Adrian Leigh Ashby, Natalie Lynne Smith, West Hartford, as well as Rosalind Davis (Garland), of Bloomfield, Leroy Cicero, Jr., Alice Brown, of Las Vegas, NV, Jeanine Braham, Atlanta, GA, and Antoinette O'Bryant of Hartford, CT. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Suzanne Thomas, 3 sisters, Janet Harris, Priscilla Howard, and Elizabeth Smith, 5 brothers Richard, Ernest, Thomas, Norman and George Roane, her late husband Calvin B. Thomas and very special friend Leroy Cicero Sr. She leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and the many lives of children who she touched to mourn her passing. Funeral services will be Friday, April 18, 2014 at 1 p.m. with at 11 a.m. calling hour at Henry L. Fuqua Funeral Service, 94 Granby Street, Bloomfield, Ct. In lieu of flowers donations to be made to the Artists Collective, 1200 Albany Ave. Hartford, CT 06112
