Michael K. Welch Obituary

Michael K. Welch, 70, of Newington, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Hagarty) Welch for 47 years. Born in Hartford, son of the late Louis and Margaret (Evans) Welch, he grew up in Elmwood and lived in Newington for the last 37 years. He graduated from Conard High School class of '61 and attended the Greater Hartford Community College. Michael proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Mike was formerly employed by Travelers Insurance Co. for 30 years and was the co-owner, with his wife, Sue, of Elite Answering Service, Newington. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Newington Knights of Columbus Council No. 3884 and was a past Grand Knight. While his children were growing up, Mike coached Newington Little League and was active in the Newington Soccer League. He followed the UConn Women's Basketball team and was proud of the girls when they won the 2014 National Championship. He also leaves his three children: Timothy M. Welch and his wife, Diana of Darien, Kevin M. Welch and his wife, Erin and Kelley A. Welch, all of Newington, his four grandchildren: Jason, Samantha, Brady and Ava, his three sisters: Susan Perriolot of TN, Dori Havens of Windsor and Peggy Yungk of Coventry. He was predeceased by his brother, Dennis Welch. His funeral service will begin on Monday, May 19th, 10:30 a.m., from Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. He will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, May 18th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
