Leller M. Crawford Lester "Susie Mae" of East Hartford, formerly of Hartford, departed her life on Sunday, (December 28, 2003) at Saint Francis Hospital, Hartford. Leller was the first-born child to Booker T. and Petrue (Dit) Crawford on Feb. 19, 1937, Dillon, SC. After attending Upchurch High School, Fayetteville, NC, in 1955, Leller moved to Connecticut. After continuing her education, she was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at various medical facilities throughout Connecticut for over 30 years. She was the founder and Worthy Matron Essietitts No. 40 Chapter of The Eastern Stars. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband, Lebert Lester, Sr. She was a loving mother to three daughters: Queen E. Crawford Fordham and husband, Irie of Middletown, Diana Payne of Manchester, Cynthia Taylor of Hartford and stepdaughter, Norma Pitts of Agusta, GA; seven sons: Samuel Crawford of Springfield, MA, U.S. Marine Corp Master Sergeant Kenneth Lester and wife, Angie of Okinawa, Japan, Lebert (Gee) Lester Jr. and wife, Terrell of Manchester, Frederick "Ricky" Lester, Reginald Lester, Cecil L. Lester, Sr. and wife Kim, all of Hartford. Leller will be missed by her sisters: Shirley Grice, Naomi Crawford McKoy, Josephine Watts and husband James, all of Hartford, and Mary Halsam and husband, Jay of Windsor; brothers: James Crawford of Hartford, Andrew Crawford and wife, Hilda of Bloomfield, John Thomas and wife, Dawn of Manchester; six loving cousins, raised as sibling: Woodrow Wilson of New Haven, Lee O. Wilson of Bloomfield, and Floreen Wilson McCoy, Estelle Bostick Grady, Dora Bostick, and James Bostick, all of Hartford; 24 treasured grandchildren: Shawn, Desmond, Danika (Dariece), Derrick, Randel, Ericka, Samaella, Ciara, Glenn, Tamia, Tamya, Jonathan, Amber, Jade, Lebert III, Ajah, Tarrick, Darei, Malon, Quianna, Leller, Cecil, Jr., Chaz, and Olivia; four great-grandchildren: Dasia, Shaquan, Derrick Jr., and Omari. She leaves four aunts: Lillian Braxton of New Haven, Catherine and Leroy Morrison of Lumberbridge, NC, Katherine Bostick of Hartford, and Mattie Wilson, Brooklyn, NY; an uncle, Willie Dixon and wife, Kate of Windsor. She will be sadly missed by special friends, Katie, Edna, and Minnie Lee, and also a host of family members and friends. Leller is predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Clarisa Dixon and brother, Roosevelt Crawford. Various chapters of the Connecticut Eastern Stars will offer a special tribute Friday, January 2, 7-8:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Fuqua Funeral Home, 94 Granby St., Bloomfield. All are welcome. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 3, 10 a.m. to 12 Noon, Mount Olive Church Ministries, 20 Battle Street, Hartford, Bishop Fenner presiding. Interment immediately following services: Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Arrangements under the direction of Henry L. Fuqua Funeral Services, Bloomfield.
