Richard Gerich Obituary



Richard F. Gerich, age 93, passed away on Thursday, morning May 28, 2015 at The Madison House in Madison after a long illness. Dick was the beloved husband of the late Sarah (Pratt) Gerich who predeceased him on February 11, 1999. He was born in New Hartford on May 28, 1922 the son of Frederick W. and Lillian R. (Ferranti) Gerich. Before residing in Madison he had been a resident of Westbrook for 17 years and Chester for 30 years. He was a communicant at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church in Westbrook. Dick, prior to his retirement was a Meter Reader for the Connecticut Light & Power Company for 32 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy proudly serving his country during World War II and the Korean War. Dick was an avid swimmer, had a great love of trains and vintage cars, and very much enjoyed eating out. He leaves his beloved daughter, Betsy S. Gerich of Madison. Besides his wife Sarah, Dick was predeceased by his son, Paul M. Gerich and a sister. A graveside service with the Rendering of Full Military Honors will be conducted on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 2:00PM in the State Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Road, Westbrook, CT 06498-1512.
