Albina T. Di Giorgio Litchfield The beautiful, loving and tender soul of Albina T. Di Giorgio of Litchfield, entered eternal life on July 9, 2015. Albina died peacefully in her sleep at her home at the age of 88. Born October 26 1926, in Waterbury, she is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Salvatore A. Di Giorgio of Litchfield, and her sons Mark Di Giorgio of West Hartford, and Brent Di Giorgio of Westport and his partner Ed Marcantonio. In addition, she leaves her sisters Theresa Cyr of Wolcott and Josephine Sportato of West Haven, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family is especially grateful to her caregivers, Kim Sparks, RN, of Litchfield, Kerri Giulian of Torrington, and Jacqueline Sweeney of Litchfield. She was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Anthony Temporale, her sister, Antoinette Dillon, and her brothers Anthony, Jr. and Dominic. Albina received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and her Master's degree from Central Connecticut State University. She taught kindergarten for 30 years at Bakerville Consolidated School, retiring in 1994. From the age of 16, when both of her parents died, Albina raised her five brothers and sisters. Her selflessness extended to all those lucky to meet her. Always fond of children, she was devoted to the 2,000 students she mentored throughout her teaching career. An accomplished artist and sculptress, Albina received several awards for her works. A lover of opera music, she possessed a soprano voice and was a member of St. Anthony's Church Choir in Litchfield until her illness. She also was a member of the Women's College Club of Litchfield County. A wake in Albina's memory will be held on Sunday, July 12th from 4 to 7 pm at the Rowe Funeral Home in Litchfield. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday July 13, 2015 at St. Anthony's Church in Litchfield. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Mourners may send flowers to the funeral home or make a donation in Albina's memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Rd. SW, Lilburn, GA 30047.
