Joseph Kiraly

Joseph Kiraly, age 89, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Nagy Kiraly, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the West Haven VA Medical Center. Born in Fairfield, the son of the late Stephen and Margaret Kiraly, he had been a lifelong town resident. Mr. Kiraly graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and received his BS in Civil Engineering from Yale University in 1947. While at Yale he enrolled in the Naval ROTC program and was commissioned an Ensign upon graduation. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and continued to serve in the Naval Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander following 25 years of service. Mr. Kiraly worked for various architectural metalworks companies throughout his career in both Connecticut and New York. Survivors include six beloved children, Linda Kiraly of Bristol, Robert D. Kiraly and his wife Judith of Hamden, Stephen P. Kiraly and his wife Dianna of Woodbury, Kenneth M. Kiraly and his wife Susan of Ocean City, MD, Sue Kiraly and her partner Mary Ellen Ryan of Trumbull and Mary Cuff and her husband Steven of Huntersville, NC; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife Elizabeth he was predeceased by four brothers and a great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Emery's Church, 838 Kings Highway, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
