Allen W. Oberg

Allen W. Oberg, 92, of Old Saybrook, formerly of West Hartford, died Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Duncaster in Bloomfield. Born in Hartford, son of the late Pete and Thelka (Persson) Oberg, he was married for 66 years to his predeceased wife, Kathryn Irene (Wilson) Oberg. He leaves two sons, Allen W. Oberg, Jr., and his wife, Karen of Old Saybrook, Erik Oberg and his wife, Deborah of Granby; two daughters, Joyce Ward and Tom Gill of Newington, Barbara Garrity and her husband, Joe of Burlington; a sister, Doris Olekszak of Ohio; a brother, Arne Oberg and his wife, Joan of South Windsor; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Esther Jane Schrader. Allen graduated from Yale in 1946 with a degree in mechanical engineering and a commission in the U.S. Navy. He was employed for 41 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft at various engineering positions. His Funeral Service will be Thursday, (June 2), 11:00 am at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10:00 am. Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
