Obituary Condolences

CALDROCC

CALDARELLA, Rocco J., Sr. Rocco J. Caldarella, Sr. died at the age of 87 on Saturday, (July 22, 2006) at his home in Fountain Hills, AZ. Mr. Caldarella, an 81 year resident of West Hartford, moved to Fountain Hills, AZ in 2000 where he was an active member of the Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills, Az.. A Veteran of World War II, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army and received the Good Conduct and Victory Medals during the period of his service. He remained engaged as a long time member of the American Legion. Mr Caldarella, an entrepreneur in his own right, spent most of his life working in the food service industry. Following service in the Army, he opened a local grocery, the Rockwood Market in West Hartford. Success was followed by opening the first of three Koffee House Restaurants, in Elmwood, followed in close succession by restaurants in Newington, and New Britain. He later opened a Delicatessen in Elmwood, to add to the list of his numerous enterprises. In each instance his work ethic and engaging "over-the-counter" manner provided the catalyst for success. He retired in 1983 following a successful effort as Deli Manager for the Crown Market in West Hartford. After retiring, he continued to work part time for another 10 years as a bus driver for the West Hartford School System. Rocco will be remembered as a man who, by hard work and sheer determination, succeeded in all that he set out to do. A long suffering member of the "Red Sox Nation" (they finally did it Dad), in the end it was the Diamondbacks who captured his heart! He is survived by a sister, Josephine Bruno of West Hartford; his three children, Rocco J. Caldarella, Jr and his wife Wendie of Fairfax, VA; Nancy Ann Brush and her husband Chuck of Granby, and Roxanne C. Boryczki and her husband Henry of Fountain Hills, AZ. He has five grandchildren, Scott Caldarella, Tanya Redwine, Christine Brush, David Brush and Jeffery Brush; and five great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be conducted on Thursday evening, July 27, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Sheehan-Hillborn-Breen Funeral Home on New Britain Ave. in West Hartford. Funeral will be held Friday, 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Hartford. Internment will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Heart Association or Hospice of the Valley at 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
