Mark Stankoski Obituary

Mark J. Stankoski, 56, of West Hartford passed away peacefully on July 26, 2017 with his family by his side after complications from lung cancer. Despite his diagnosis he fought bravely to be there with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved above all else. He was born on November 13, 1960 in New Britain, CT. Mark leaves behind his beloved wife of 33 years, Penny (Bussolari), their two daughters and their husbands, Erica and Brendan Rose, Nicole and Jeffrey Giliberto, and his three grandchildren, Logan, Everly, and Brody, with another grandson on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Carole Stankoski, and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Matthew and Ann (Cuomo) Stankoski, his sister, Linda Norton, brother Matthew Stankoski, Jr. and nephew, Jeremy Norton. Mark treasured spending time with his family- especially spoiling his grandchildren with trips to the toy store. He was involved for many years with the West Hartford Girls Softball League where he was passionate about coaching and helping develop the league. He always spoke proudly of his former players. He was also a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers. His family would like to thank Dr. Todd Alekshun and the wonderful staff at Starling Oncology, Dr. John McCardle, and Dr. Robert Dowsett for their compassionate care and support. A Mass of Christain Burial will be held on Tuesday August 1, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter Claver 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be held on Monday July 31, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home 136 South Main St., West Hartford. Dear Erica and Nicole,
After I read the article in the Hartford courant I'm sorry to hear about your Dad.
I realized he died about the same age as my brother and also from cancer.
More has to be done to inform people about the foods to avoid and the foods that fight cancer. My brother lived 7 years longer than the doctor gave him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Dana

My sincerest condolences to all on Marks passing. I was best friends with Mark and Matt in high school and had just recently tried to rekindle our friendship via Facebook. Unfortunately I didn't hear of his passing until today and missed his services but he and his family are in my prayers. I have many fond memories of Mark (most of which would be inappropriate to post to the public, lol. We were young after all) but I remember the night my sister and I stole his car from in front of our house and went on a short joy ride. Mark took it very well as he did all things. He was angry but it didn't last long. I wish I had looked him and Penny up on social media much earlier and had a chance to see his beautiful family in person as well as having the opportunity to see him and reminisce before his passing. He was and will always be one of my greatest friends and I will miss him dearly. God bless.

My condolences on your loss. Mark was one of the reasons I stayed with West Hartford Girls Softball. Over the years we were as close as an Umpire and Coach can be. I have a great deal of respect for all he accomplished with the league over the years and will miss him at Sterling Field.-J Hogan NCCB

Penny, Erica, Nikki,

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you throughout this difficult time. Mark was so brave and put up an incredible fight to stay with all of you for as long as he could. This is an amazing testament to his love for all of you. The effort that you all went to to care for Mark and keep him at home was simply amazing and showed the love you had for him. Your family is so fortunate to have such an amazing connection and bond with each other. I hope in time your memories will provide you with comfort and ease some of the pain.

sending all my love and hugs to the lovely family that is Mark's.

Mark was indeed a very passionate and loving person. My daughter Lauren was one of the lucky ones who was coached in softball by Mark. He loved coaching and developing the girls. He was very focused ..one day I was asked not to distribute ice pops to the girls DURING the game..it was disturbing their concentration on winning!LOL!

Mark loved his grandkids and he truly did spoil them with his love and devotion and okay, maybe a FEW toys!

I was happy to see GreenBay do so well this past football season. I always felt they were doing their best for their most passionate fan!

May Mark rest in peace. May his family be comforted with all those memories that he managed to make in such a short lifetime!

God bless!!

Penny, Erica, and Nikki,

I was saddened to learn of Mark's passing. I was just thinking of him the other day, and reminiscing about our softball years. He was probably the only person, other than my dad and myself, who frequented the softball fields even when his own team didn't have a game. If I ever needed to reach Mark, I always knew where to find him. He was part of a great legacy in improving the level of play for the girls of West Hartford, and preparing them for play at the high school. He supported his players well beyond their time on his team. I wouldn't be surprised if he, my dad, and Dan are somewhere out there chatting about softball.

Erica and Nikki, your dad was so proud of you both and talked about you often. As someone who also lost her father too soon, these memories you have playing on the team and helping coach the team will live with you forever. It's a special bond and treasured times. May these memories help you find comfort during this difficult time. Love to you all.
