Varick Harrison Obituary
Varick (Rick) Dey Harrison, of Essex, died August 6, 2017. Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, he was youngest son of Benjamin V. Harrison, Jr. and Mildred Westover. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Benjamin V. Harrison, III and sister Louise H. Lindgrove. After graduation from the Hill School he attended Yale University finishing Cum Laude. After Yale, Rick served as a young Lieutenant in the Navy. After his military service, he taught Latin and coached wrestling at the Hopkins School in New Haven until his retirement. An avid sailor, he was a member of Off Soundings, Pettipaug Yacht Club, Frost Bite Yacht Club and a devoted member and Past Commodore of Essex Yacht Club. He is survived by his nieces and nephew, Madeline Smith of Florida, Benjamin V. Harrison IV of Oregon, Sandra Pait and Marjorie Lindgrove of Virginia, Sewell Harrison of Connecticut and Daryl Martin of New Jersey. Memorial Services will be held on September 11, 2017 at 4pm from the First Congregational Church in Essex, CT Interment will be private.
