FISHER, Lester James Lester James Fisher, known as Bud to his many friends and business associates, died peacefully on Friday, (December 31, 2004) at Brookview Health Care. He was 96 years of age. Bud was born in Manchester, NH on July 10, 1908. The family later settled in Manchester. Bud began his 30-year career at Plimpton's Inc., the long-established office supplies company in Hartford. In his mid-twenties as a salesman; became vice-president of sales in the early 1950's; and retired in the mid 1970's to begin a second career. He served his county in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, earning four Bronze Stars for combat in the Asia-Pacific Theater in New Guinea and the Philippines. Bud was a member of the City Club of Hartford and later joined Wampanaug Country Club. He was a congregant at Emanuel Lutheran in Hartford and a member of the West Hartford Squires Club. While one of Bud's greatest pleasures in life was traveling far and wide to see the beauties of the world, he always returned to his home in the community he loved, West Hartford. Bud's family extends special thanks to the people of Emanuel Lutheran, particularly Pastor John Corgan and his staff, Allen Anderson, and Lynnea Olson for their lasting friendship and support and to Ethel Van Geons, Woodrow Wilson, Susan and Ed Johnson, and Gladys Peterson for their many kindnesses over the years; and to the staff at Brookview for their dedicated care. Bud was predeceased by his first wife of more than 20 years, Patricia Fredericks Fisher (deceased March 1961) and his second wife of 35 years, Ruth Jensen Fisher (deceased May 2000), and by his brother Howard Fisher (deceased November 1972) and his wife Stella Upham Zemantic Fisher (deceased January 1998), and by his brother-in-law, Frederick Van Geons (deceased April 2003). He is survived by his daughter Susan of San Jose, CA; his stepson, Earl Greenwood of Eustis, FL; his stepgrandson, Gordon Greenwood of East Hampton, and stepgranddaughter, Katherine Holmes also of Eustis, FL: and his sister-in-law Ethel Van Geons of West Hartford. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 5, at 10 a.m at Fairview Cemetery on Pleasant Street and Whitman Avenue in West Hartford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements.
