McCART, Irma W. Irma (Hathaway) Watson McCart, wife of the late Harold McCart, passed away peacefully with her son at her side, at the Vernon Manor Health Care center in Vernon, on Sunday, (April 17, 2005), at the age of 104. She had been a patient there since early August of 2004. She was born September 14, 1900 to Charles and Etha (Metzer) Hathaway at a farm east of Pittsburg, KS near the State line. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and then received a Life Certificate in teaching at Pittsburg State University, formerly known as Kansas State Manual Training Normal and later as Kansas State Teachers College. She taught four years in local area schools in Kansas and Missouri, driving a horse and buggy to one room school houses teaching students in multiple grades one through eight. She then married Louis Watson, now deceased and who later became one of the pioneers of aviation in the Midwest area. To this union, one son was born, Lee Eldon Watson, now residing in South Glastonbury. In 1943, she married Harold McCart, moving to Wichita, KS to make their home and was employed by the Gas Service Company for 20 years. Upon her retirement they moved back to Pittsburg and made their home in Random Acres until 1993, whereupon they moved to Portland to be near her son and his family. She has been a member of the First Christian Church since 1938. She is survived by her son and his wife, Janet Watson; two granddaughters, Terri Benoit of Taft Ville, and Holly Watson of Hebron; and two great granddaughters, Lori and Mary Dreier. Also a step grandson, Kurt Appling of Brandon and a favored niece, Jolene Heidingsfelder and her husband Robert of Metairie, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Harry and Ira Hathaway. Rev. Dr. Geoffry will conduct services at the First Christian Church, 705 Centennial, Pittsburg, KS and burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, later this week. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be made in the form of memorials to the First Christian Church, and may be left or sent to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S.
