John A. Gilberto

Obituary Condolences

John A. Gilberto, 70 of Enfield, entered into eternal peace Monday, (July 1, 2002) at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Oct. 11, 1931 in Hartford, the son of the late Giuseppe and Sebastiana (Ferla) Giliberto. John was raised in Hartford, and resided in East Hartford before moving to Enfield 35 years ago. He was formerly employed by the Schick Co. as a sales & service rep. for many yrs., and then by Pratt & Whitney for several yrs. before retiring in 1976. John was an avid Red Sox, UCONN Women's basketball, and NY Giants fan. He was a member of the Enfield Congregational Church and was active on Church Board's, serving as financial secretary and deacon. John is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Lillian (Bycenski) Gilberto; a daughter, Christine Donohue and her husband, Thomas; a son, John E. Gilberto; a grandson, Sean Joseph Donohue and his mother-in-law, Mildred Bycenski all of Enfield. He also leaves his siblings, Salvatore Giliberto and his wife, Maureen of West Hartford, Ralph Giliberto of Michigan, Gaetana Attenello of North Carolina, Camille Fambrough of Florida, Frank Giliberto and his wife, Gladys of Nevada, Orlando Gilberto and his wife, Joan of Wethersfield, Paula Carroll and her husband, O.E. "Gene" of Florida, Michelina Lauzier of E. Hartford, Joseph Gilberto of Newington, Gene Gilberto and his wife, Betty Ann of Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Rose Gilberto of Hartford and Maureen Gilberto of Windsor Locks; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Paul, Rinaldo and Daniel. John's family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, July 4, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield, Exit 48 off 1-91, East on Rt. 220 for 1 and a 1/4 miles. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 5, 10 a.m. with Rev. Pamela Rose Vollinger officiating from the Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, followed by burial in the Enfield Street Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers, John's family request that memorial donations in his memory be made to the Enfield Congregational Church, P.O. Box 3171, Enfield, CT 06083.
