Obituary Condolences

McCARTHY, John "Jack" J. John "Jack" J. McCarthy, 64, of Waterbury died Tuesday, (November 20, 2007) in Waterbury after a brief illness. Jack was born in Waterbury where he lived most of his life on August 2, 1943, son of the late John and Mary (Flaherty) McCarthy and the grandson of the late John and Brigid (Kennedy) McCarthy and the late Patrick and Mary (Crean) Flaherty, all from County Kerry, Ireland. Jack was a graduate of St. Margaret Grammar School, Sacred Heart High School, St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Niagara University and the Simmons School of Embalming. As a licensed embalmer, Jack worked at the Murphy Funeral Home, the Bergin Funeral Home, and Sisk Brothers Funeral Home. A lifelong educator in Catholic schools, Jack worked and/or administered at St. Margaret Grammar School, St. Francis Xavier Grammar School, and Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, Xavier High School in Middletown and currently was at Lauralton Hall in Milford. Jack was an active and life-time member of The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Msgr. Slocum Division #1 in Waterbury. Over the years, he held the offices of financial secretary, vice-president and president in the Waterbury Division. On the New Haven County level he served as secretary, treasurer, vice-president and president. He was chair of the religious services committee for the National Convention of the AOH in 2002 and was a member of the National Board of the AOH. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and St. Patrick's Parish where he was a Eucharistic Minister. He was the Waterbury Mayor of the Day on St. Patrick's Day in 2003. Jack is survived by his sisters and brothers, Sr. Mary McCarthy, RSM, of Middletown, Sr. Pat McCarthy, CND, of Norwalk, James and Magda McCarthy of New York City, NY, Thomas and Penny McCarthy of Waterbury, and his nieces, Mary, Christina, Kathleen, Katherine and Patricia McCarthy, and his McCarthy, Dillon and Flaherty cousins. Funeral will be held Saturday November 24, at 9 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury to St. Patrick's Church, 50 Charles St. for a Mass at 10 a.m..
