Walter "Walt" Cartier
Hattiesburg
Walter "Walt" Cartier, 84, of Hattiesburg, died February 28, 2013, at Forrest General Hospital. Services will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, at Central Baptist Church, followed by burial in Dixie Cemetery.
Mr. Cartier devoted his life to the education of the children of Forrest County and served five terms as Superintendent of Forrest County Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a member of 21 different clubs and organizations and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ettie Cleo Sebren.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Cartier of Hattiesburg; two sisters, Juanita Smith of New Orleans and Virginia Maples of Temple, Tex.; a niece, Charlotte Hancock of St. Rose, La.; a nephew, Ronald Hess of Kenner, La.; and several cousins.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.

I remember Mr. Cartier very well. He was always around the schools and the students. It seemed like he was at every function we had. He was a very well loved man and will be greatly missed.
