Lequita "Jerry" Alexander Martin
Lequita "Jerry" Alexander Martin, 79, of Hattiesburg, died October 16, 2012 at Forrest General Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 22, 2012 at Moore Funeral Chapel in Hattiesburg with graveside services at 1 p.m. in Montrose Cemetery.
Lequita was born July 22, 1933 in Montrose, Miss. to Craig and Grace Alexander, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Montrose High School, Jones Jr. College, and the University of Southern Mississippi (BS, MS, Specialist degrees). She was a teacher and administrator in the public schools for over 35 years (Gulfport, MS; Huntsville, AL; Houston, TX; Charleston, SC; Hattiesburg, MS) and was an avid education advocate at the state and federal levels. She was very active in the Mississippi Democratic Party serving on county, district, and state executive committees as well as District Representative for Congressman Gene Taylor for 19 years.
She is survived by her husband, BJ Martin of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Crystle Martin Moulds of Chattanooga and Amber Martin Arnold of Memphis; and grandchildren, Jacob Moulds, Tiffany Jackson, Alex Moulds, Sara Moulds, Hailey Arnold, and Isaac Moulds.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
