Tanya Shalawn Eckford Echols was born June 19, 1974 to Mr. and Mrs. Joe E. Eckford, Sr. Growing up in Prentiss, Tanya accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young child, and joined Point Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where she was a very active member. She later became a faithful member of The Kingdom Training Center in Hattiesburg, MS.
Tanya graduated from Prentiss High School, and then moved on to earn a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from Florida A&M University. Her most recent employment was as Operations Coordinator of the Pharmacy Department at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS.
Tanya married the love of her life, David Allan Echols, on June 23, 2000. They were blessed with a son and two daughters.
On March 14, 2013, at Forrest General Hospital, Tanya made her transition home to be with her Lord; "for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." She will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her devoted husband, David Allan; a son David Alexander; two daughters, Madison Grace and Chloe Nicole; her parents, Joe and Carolyn; a brother, Joe (Jamila), and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be this evening from 3:00-8:00pm at Forrest Funeral Home in Hattiesburg. A Homegoing Celebration will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at West Point Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. Interment will follow immediately after at Point Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Olive, MS.
