William Edward "Bookie" Smith, 68, of Moulton, Alabama, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham. Services will be Sunday, February 24, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Moore Petal Chapel followed by burial in Runnelstown Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was an automobile mechanic and a member of First Baptist Church in Runnelstown. He served in the U.S. Navy. He founded T-Ball in Runnelstown, co-founded Dixie Youth Baseball, and was the first PTO President at Perry Central High School.

He was preceded in death by his father, Will Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Blackwell Smith of Moulton, Ala.; five sons, Edward "Eddie" Smith and his wife, Cheri of Moulton, Ala., Martin "Marty" Smith, and his wife, Dorothy of Petal, Joseph "Joey" Smith of Atlanta, Ga., James "Jamie" Smith, and his wife, Wendy of Moulton, Ala., and Jody Smith of Huntsville, Ala.; his mother, Inez "Dot" Smith of Runnelstown; one brother, Wade Smith of Runnelstown; two sisters, Wa Jana Smith of Runnelstown and Judi Anderson of Richton; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
