Amelia Elliott, 92, of Petal, died Monday, January 20, 2014 at Wesley Medical Center. Services will be Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Moore Funeral Chapel in Petal followed by burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Elliott was a homemaker. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where she served in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC), and also where she met her husband, the late George W. Elliott, Sr. She was a member of Lynn Ray Road Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Petal Chapter, and the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe. She attended Jones County Junior College, where she studied in their nursing program.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Byron and Beulah Rose Dickerson; two sisters, Rosalie Aas and Betty Wadsworth; and one brother, Myrton Dickerson.
She is survived by one daughter, Cheryle (Greg) Crosby of Seminary; three sons, William "Bill" (Rae) Elliott of McKinney, Tex., Curtis (Debbie) Elliott and Terry Elliott, both of Petal; one sister, Elaine Boswell of Wanatchee, Wash.; four grandchildren, Teresah (Tim) Thompson, Gary (Brenda) Elliott, Christina (Bryan) Hunter, and Stacy (Eric) Butler; and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 5:30 - 9 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Petal.
