Doretta "Maw Maw" Betz born March 18, 1913 died October 8, 2013 peacefully surrounded by prayer.

"The Lord is my Shepherd" as she faithfully answered His call for her return to Him. Born in Westwego, La. she is survived by three living children, Norman, Suzanne, and Dee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Frederick Betz, Sr. married 66 years, in Sept 2000, and her son, Louis Betz, Jr. earlier this year. Early in her marriage, she delivered a still born baby boy, Joseph. She is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren throughout America. For 100 years, she lived in multiple residences throughout the USA , Mexico, Venezuela, and the Virgin Islands. She adapted to multiple cultures with ease and a flair for life. Maw Maw's entire life was devoted to being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was the "life of the party", the "belle of the ball", known for her quick wit, lively banter and no nonsense common sense. An accomplished self taught seamstress, she fashion all of her kids clothes for years, even prom dresses and suits! She was an equally accomplished baker and won second place in a pecan pie Pillsbury bake off!

Quick to play, children sought her out and she taught all the rules of the game (no cheating allowed) whether it was poker, board games or out door activities. At 72 she managed to break a leg while roller skating on the sidewalk with her beloved grandchildren. Her kindness to everyone was remarkable as she lived her Catholic Faith. Lastly, her final years were spent with many new friends as we migrated to Hattiesburg after the storm in New Orleans. She will be greatly missed. Services will be held at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 3117 W. Fourth St, Hattiesburg beginning with the viewing at 8:30 am followed by Mass at 10 am Fr. Godfrey will officiate.
