Ethel Christine Byrd Hammack, 77, died on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at her home in Hattiesburg after a long illness. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Hardy Street Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel.
Mrs. Hammack was born in December, 1934, in Pike County, Mississippi. She resided in Hattiesburg the last 40 years, working at Brackman on Broadway and in the Registrar's Office at the University of Southern Mississippi. She also gave many volunteer hours with the Mississippi Chapter of the National Ataxia Foundation.
Mrs. Hammack is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack Denson Hammack of Hattiesburg; three daughters, Deborah Seal and husband Loy of Ruston, LA, Brenda Fortune and husband Rick, of Hattiesburg, and Becky McLendon and husband O.T. of Brooklyn, MS; one brother, Eugene Byrd and wife Glenda of Stanton, TX, and two sisters, Minnie Seal of Hattiesburg and Ruby Brewer of Hattiesburg; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Mississippi Chapter of the National Ataxia Foundation, The
, or the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.
