Rev. Howard Anderson, 86, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the home of his daughter. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Hattiesburg. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Hill Gardens Cemetery in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Rev. Anderson was born in Opp, Alabama, on March 24, 1927, graduated from Howard College in 1950, graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1956 and received his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama in 1974. He pastored churches in Indiana, Alabama and Georgia in the 50's and 60's, and then taught statistics and other courses in the psychology department of the University of Southern Mississippi from 1974 until he retired in 2000. He returned to the ministry in 2004 as pastor of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, continuing that ministry until he died. He was dearly loved by his family, his friends, his students and his church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Frances Jacobs Anderson; one daughter, Linda Tuten; his parents, John William and Sarah Elizabeth (Amie) Smith Anderson; two brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Helen Netherton and husband John of Petal; son-in-law Richard Tuten; niece, Robbie King; grandchildren, Charles Tuten and wife Melissa, Derek Tuten, Stephanie Beers and husband Mike, Caitlin Tuten, Brandy Netherton, and Paige Netherton; great-grandchildren, Natalie Tuten, Charlotte Beers and Hannah Beers.

Donations may be made to Lighthouse Rescue Mission, 204 Europa Street (39401) or Christian Women's Job Corp, 3200 Arlington Loop (39401).

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home and beginning at 9:00 AM Friday at Ridgecrest Baptist Chuch.
