Roddis Matt Freeman

Hattieburg, MS

Roddis Matt Freeman, 85, born on November 10, 1927, died at his home in Hattiesburg, MS on April 14, 2013. Visitation will be at Hulett Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday. Also, visitation will begin at 10:15 AM with services to follow at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at The First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Roseland Park Cemetery with Military rites performed by the VFW Post 3036 Honor Guard.

Mr. Freeman worked in the banking business for many years before retiring as a Senior Vice President of Magnolia Federal Bank. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University, a United States Air Force Veteran serving two (2) tours of duty in World War II. He was an avid reader and golfer, a former deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg and a member of the Hattiesburg Country Club.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, Matt and Cornett Freeman, his first wife, Mildred Freeman, a son, Harold Jones, Jr., and two brothers, Hilton and Howard Freeman.

A loving husband and father devoted to his family, he is survived by his wife of 29 years, Francis J. Freeman of Hattiesburg; a son, Alan Freeman (Susan) of New Orleans; two daughters, Kim Pegram of Greensboro, NC and Sandy Smith of Hattiesburg; a sister, Elaine Reeves of McComb; grandchildren, Chelsea Pegram, Miles Pegram, Leslie Seger, Amanda Freeman, Kelly Nash (William), Matt Smith, Jeremy Jones, Brooke Burrows, Brantley Jones, Courtney Jones and six (6) great-grandchildren.
